                              Friendship                          Sacrifice
                              Betrayal                              Forgiveness
                              Injustice                              Hope

We will be happy to accept many interpretations of ‘Art’- drawings, paintings, photographs, collages, poetry and sculpture will be accepted. The exhibits will be displayed during Holy Week (March 28th – 4th April) in Bishopbriggs Churches.

CHRISTIAN AID APPEAL

Each year the main fund-raising activity for Christian Aid is the door-to-door collection in May.

In addition to this there is an appeal during Lent, and this year’s theme is “Count your Blessings”.

This year it is particularly important that we support this event.  Over the past couple of years the income generated by Christian Aid has dropped quite substantially, partly because of the recession where people are not in a position to help as much as previously and partly because of adverse exchange rates where the money raised has had a reduced impact.  However, the needs remain whether it is in Haiti which suffered a major natural disaster or whether in many other countries around the world where, inevitably, it is the poorest who suffer most.

Christian Aid has not been immune from cut backs with some of their staff being made redundant.

It also faces impossible decisions about where to allocate the funds available as each project cannot be supported.  Some people in desperate need will simply receive no help.

“Count your Blessings” is a programme throughout Lent.  The idea is to give modest amounts each day in recognition of our consumption and waste to help those who do not have any consumption of the basics we all take for granted – clean water, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, rice and so on.

If each of us gives a relatively small amount during Lent then together we can raise a substantial sum to alleviate some of the hardships faced by so many elsewhere in the world.  It is a practical way in which we can support the wider mission of the church and the objectives of Christian Aid.

I commend this appeal to each of you.  Leaflets are available at the door of the church which give more information.

Thank you in anticipation for your support.

             Ian Watt, Christian Aid Convener
