The Echoes of Assembly meeting will be held on June 1st at Campsie Parish Church at 7.30 p.m. All are welcome.
We would like to wish everyone a lovely summer – with straightforward transport for all travellers.
gggggggggggggggg
As we approach our final outing of the session we are hoping for good weather on
Thursday 22nd April.
The reason is that we will be going for a sail on Loch Katrine
on the Sir Walter Scott. We will be afloat for two hours – visiting Stronachlacar.
On our return there will be some time for a “bite” to eat at the pier area. Thereafter
we go for a tour in the Trossachs area in the 50 seater coach.
This Spring Outing is open to members, wives and friends. Tickets and information are
available from Mr Alistair Phillips, Club Treasurer (Telephone 772 3555), or by enquiry from any committee member.
During the past session we have thoroughly enjoyed listening to superb speakers. We
hope to have a secretary in place after the Annual General Meeting which will be held
on 31st March, as Bill Blacklaw has resigned on serious health grounds. We thank him
for his service to the Club and wish him well.
New members are always welcomed. If you are interested contact:-
Chairman, Ian Ritchie, 772 3591.

92ND GLASGOW COMPANY
THE GIRLS’ BRIGADE
Well, that is another year nearly over for us. Only our Camp left as I write this. It has been a good year. The girls have been great, from the Explorers to the Juniors to the Brigaders. We have had a busy past few months and the officers I am sure are looking forward to a break from their usual Tuesday nights.
Our Annual Display went ahead without any of the problems we have experienced in the past thankfully. Our guest Josephine Torrance from Mary’s Meals accepted a cheque for £200 from the Company. The girls enjoyed performing and our Company singing seemed to go well. The girls received their awards and our Angus Shield this year went to two of our Brigaders who this year also received their Brigader Brooches. Lucy and Lynsey have been helping out in the Junior Section and have impressed the officers with their maturity and commitment, and they will be attending the Regional AGM at the City Chambers to receive recognition for achieving their Brigader Brooches.
The Display was closely followed by our fun nights. The Juniors and Brigaders both went to Laser Tag in Clydebank. The girls really enjoyed themselves. Meanwhile back at the South Halls the Explorers were having a Fairy Night. The girls – and an officer (naming no names!) were dressed as fairies. They played fairy games, made fairy wands, decorated fairy cakes and then went home very happy. The aim was also to invite younger girls who would be starting school and there were 6 wee girls came along. Hopefully when they come in August they will all bring a friend with them.
This brings us up to the Closing Parade, which was fairly well attended. It was another lovely morning with the rain staying well away. Quite a few of the girls came along to the Church Picnic at Meadowburn where we had a great time. The bungee run especially brought quite a few laughs!.
Well it is on to last minute organisation for Camp to Auchengillan now. We have 25 girls coming this year and I am sure we will have a lot of fun. By the time you read this we will be home – exhausted and covered in midge bites – but having had a great weekend at Auchengillan.
Enrolment for 2010-11 is on Tuesday 24 August at 7.00 pm.

THE 212th GLASGOW COMPANY
THE BOYS’ BRIGADE
Anchor Boys rounded off their session with a barbeque at Mugdock Park. A great turnout from all with around 50 boys, parents and staff. Burgers, hot dogs, pakora and chocolate bananas helped give the boys the energy to enjoy all the attractions/play areas at Mugdock. So much so that the evening ran on a little bit longer than their normal meeting times. And the plus point being, no rain.
Junior Section was also fortunate weather wise for their weekend camp at Whithaugh Park, Newcastleton. Nineteen boys and eight staff attended, with kayaking and high-ropes being the activities participated in, although I suspect the highlight was in fact the rope bridge on the low-ropes course. Or to be even more correct the pond below it. I’m sure some clothes would have needed a double wash to remove the dirt! Some snaps from the weekend on the website soon.
And fortunate with weather again for the closing parade, effectively rounding off Session 2009/10. With everyone dashing to the picnic, there wasn’t much opportunity for commemorative badge sales. If you are looking for one (or even two) then don’t hesitate to get in touch. 40th celebrations continue into the first half of Session 2010/11, with the All-sections trip and celebratory dinner in the planning. Hopefully more on those after the summer.
The parade rounded off the session but alas it is not at an end. Junior Section have a couple more weeks – 10 pin bowling and a visit from SFA referee Brian Sweeney, before completing their session at the District Sports on 5 June at Merkland Outdoor Centre, where we hope to retain the District Sports Shield. It’s a new format this year, something we, as a Company, have taken a lead on. It’s very much team orientated with boys being able to participate in all events, unlike previous years and gaining points towards the Company score for how fast they run and how long they jump or throw.
At Company Section, our Monday meetings nights have stopped however, on Sunday 6 June, 20 boys & officers head to Troon Fullerton to play in the Boys v Officers competition and for the Company Section Golf Shield.
And of course the final activity of session is Company Section Camp – 19 boys and staff are heading to Rock UK’s Frontier Centre in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire on the morning of Saturday 26 June for the week. Adventure activities, a visit to Thorpe Park (theme park) and Wembley Stadium on the cards. It’s a new venue for Camp, so a degree of anticipation & excitement for boys and staff alike.
Our thoughts do now turn to Session 2010/11. The new session is already taking shape - activities, fund-raisers and camps (already!) - on the diary dates page of the website. Enrolment dates for the new session have still to be agreed/finalised so refer back to this page towards August.
See you all after the summer.

The season has now finished with no more nights of play planned as everyone looks to summer pastimes such as tennis, golf and cricket now that the better weather has arrived(?).
The Gents Team, back in the top flight after winning the second division last year achieved their principal objective for the year by managing to finish third in the first division thereby avoiding relegation. This was achieved with three wins from eight matches in a season that went to the very last match.
The Mixed Team has not done so well and has been relegated to the third division by default. This is because insufficient matches were played by the team due to a shortage of ladies. The Club will enter a team in next year’s league but unless the situation changes, this could be the last year for the mixed team.
The Club restarts on the first Sunday in September and anticipated nights of play remain as Sundays and Wednesdays. Needless to say, visitors and new members are always welcome.

The Music Club will begin again on Wednesday 1st September 2010 at 7.30 p.m. In the North Hall. All welcome.
We hope you all have a super summer with lots of sunshine!!

We are very fortunate to have an experienced, enthusiastic and well-balanced SATB choir with twenty members. Between September and early June (except for the Sundays following Christmas and Easter) choir practice takes place in Church on Sunday mornings from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. After choir practice there is a short coffee break before the morning service.
The choir sings an Introit each week and an Anthem as often as possible. In addition, the choir provides choral music for the Services of Lessons and Carols at Advent and Christmas. Our repertoire includes music in traditional and modern styles.

In October we had a social evening when we had the pleasure of welcoming volunteers and
customers to the handing over of cheques to the charities we had been supporting in 2008 – 2009.
Eastpark, RNLI and Project India each received £850. Bishopbriggs Churches Together £200.
(In addition to the funds above we also donated £832 to Christian Aid earlier in the year.)
We had presentations from Campsie View School, Lukaemia Research and Ethiopia Aid (fistula) to
whom we will be donating in 2009 – 2010.
These gifts are only made possible by the work of our Co-ordinator, Esther Gay, the many volunteers
who give so generously of their time and above all by the customers who come to dine with us.
If you are not already a volunteer or a customer please come along and enjoy the experience of
being part of this venture.
You will always receive a warm welcome in Cadder Coffee Shop.

Some of you may have seen the recent Panorama programme on ~Chocolate: the
Bitter Truth in which it revealed the use of child labour in some West African cocoa
farms. Some were indeed Fairtrade producers and as soon as these were identified,
the issue was dealt with swiftly and compassionately.
Enforced child labour is an infringement of the UN Convention on the Rights of
a Child and is explicitly prohibited in the Fairtrade system. If you would like more
